The three components of self compassion

There are three apects to self compassion.

One is self-kindness, as opposed to self-judgment. Self-compassion involves being warm and supportive—actively soothing ourselves—as opposed to being cold and judging ourselves.

Second is remembering that imperfection is part of the shared human experience—that you’re not alone in your suffering and you can actually feel more connected to people in those moments.

Third is mindfulness. If you aren’t mindfully aware that you’re suffering, if you’re just repressing your pain or ignoring it or getting lost in problem solving, you can’t give yourself compassion.

The Empathetic Civilisation

‘We humans are soft-wired for sociability, affection, to belong, and to empathize. The question is "Can we extend our empathy to the entire human race, fellow creatures and biosphere?" Jeremy Rifkin's short 10 minute video on the empathic civilization is mapped out in a stunningly visual and cohesive way.

The 600 music therapists in the UK can take heart that the report recommends that music therapy should be offered alongside conventional treatments.  This is another step in the right direction to promote a holistic approach in healthcare.
