The Sound Health Resource MP3 series has been developed by the BHMA to help both healthcare practitioners and patients to cope with stress and enhance their well-being.   The Cd's that were produced in 2004 have now been updated to MP3 versions and are freely available.

 

Coping with persistent pain. Easing suffering through relaxation

This MP3 is primary intended for people suffering from persistent pain, possibly for several months or many years.  The sort of approaches suggested on this MP3 results in many people finding that their pain levels are reduced with the benefit lasting.  

Dr James Hawkins qualified in medicine at Cambridge University in 1976.  He has had extensive training in psychotherapy, and in both conventional and complementary medicine. Getting to sleep. Help with insomnia

This MP3 is designed to help people with problems going to sleep and staying asleep. The first section  (24mins) promotes relaxation and positive thinking which relates to the second section with the specific goal of sleeping well.  Most people notice improvement within the first week and significant improvement after 2-3 weeks.  They then can play it as a ‘top up’ when needed.

Ashley Conway graduated in psychology in 1978 and went onto complete his PhD in psychophysiology in 1992.  He has worked in a wide range of environments from NHS primary care to private psychiatric hospitals, and London teaching hospitals to his own clinics.  Over the years Ashley has also developed a growing interest in positive psychology. www.drashleyconway.com

 

Introducing meditation. For peace of Mind

Meditation is a way of stilling the mind and making yourself calm. It is simple and natural. Meditation helps you deal with stress, develop a more positive approach to life, feel calm and find an inner peacefulness. This 40 minute MP3 explains about meditation and gives examples to practice. 

Dr Sarah Eagger is a consultant Psychiatrist for the elderly and was a former chair of the BHMA.  She has been practicing and teaching meditation for many years and has been chairperson of the Royal College of Psychiatrist Special interest Group in Spirituality. Coping with stress. Tackling tension

Training in relaxation can lower levels of anxiety, reduce pain and improve fatigue.  This is useful when tension is building and if practiced regularly aids the bodies natural healing process.  There are two exercises on this MP3 which each take 25 minutes each.  The first is a body scanning which helps release tension in your body and the second is deeply relaxing session using key phrases to enable your mind to become calm.

Prof David Peters qualified in medicine, studied homeopathy and trained as a GP and is currently professor of Integrated Healthcare at the University of Westminster.  He has always been fascinated by health and wholeness and how body soul and mind are linked.  He was Chairman of the BHMA for a ten-year period.  He teaches relaxation and runs stress management courses.
